The HSBC Business Excellence Awards, which honours the contribution of business enterprises and entrepreneurs to the economy, has added two new categories – Excellence in Sustainability and Best in Innovation and Technology.

HSBC stated this Wednesday at a press briefing at the capital's Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel, adding that the second iteration of the awards will be organised jointly with the commerce ministry of Bangladesh and British High Commission under the theme "The Year of Resilience."

Nominations for the awards are currently open, and they will close on 28 January, 2021. However, HSBC has yet to announce the schedule for the awards ceremony.

The other six award categories are: Export Excellence – Ready-Made Garments, Export Excellence – Supply Chain and Backward Linkage, Export Excellence – Non-traditional and Emerging Sectors, Best in Import Substitution, Leader in Inbound Investment, and Infrastructure and Special Achievement Award.

The awards programme aims to recognise and honour business enterprises and entrepreneurs from Bangladesh for their contributions to the sustainable growth of the economy, while supporting an environment that furthers entrepreneurial spirit, HSBC Bangladesh said.

For picking the winners, businesses and entrepreneurs will be judged based on their: export volumes, contribution to the economy, social responsibility, sustainable management processes, diversity, and regulatory compliance.

All business enterprises and entrepreneurs in Bangladesh are eligible to enter the Second HSBC Business Excellence Awards. Participants do not have to pay an entry fee and do not have to be customers of the bank.

HSBC Bangladesh's CEO Mahbub Ur Rahman said, "Through this award, we are recognising the contributions of the best business organisations in Bangladesh. We are also offering them our full cooperation for expanding their businesses by connecting them to global opportunities."

"We have been providing the same service to businesses across the globe for the past 155 years," he added.

HSBC's Country Head of Wholesale Banking Kevin Green said, "We want to highlight the contributions of the best entrepreneurs and business enterprises through this award programme, as their achievements are turning Bangladesh into a shining beacon of success in front of the world.

"We are proud to be a part of this initiative," he added.

Detailed information about the awards programme is available at this web portal: business.hsbc.com.bd/bea.

The first iteration of the HSBC Business Excellence Awards was held in January 2020.
