Female employees in banks rise by 12.9% in 6 months: BB report
17.6% of bank employees now women

The participation of women in the country's banking sector is gradually increasing with female employees now comprising 17.6% of the banking workforce.
According to Bangladesh Bank's report for July-December 2024 published yesterday (9 March), the total number of bank employees increased by 5.17% in the last six months of 2024, while the number of female employees increased by 12.9%.
The report says private sector banks have been at the forefront of this transformation.
Bank officials say women are being attracted to jobs at banks due to the good working environment, standard salary structure, and various benefits including maternity leave.
In 2023, the number of female employees in the banking sector stood at 33,346, a figure that climbed to 37,649 by the end of 2024.
In the same period, the total number of employees in the banks has increased from 2,03,696 to 2,14,245.
The report provides a detailed breakdown of female representation across different levels of banking employment. Women now occupy 18.87% of entry-level positions, 15.96% of mid-level roles and 9.73% of senior posts.
Besides, female representation on bank boards of directors has witnessed a slight rise to 13.61% by the end of 2024 from 13.51% in 2023.
To create a working environment for women in the workplace, there are currently 119 child day care centres under the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs and 20 under the Ministry of Social Welfare in the country. Besides, there are also a number of private day care centres in the country.
