BB Governor Mostaqur urges swift recovery of laundered money
He also directed that the initiative be placed on a “fast-track” footing to expedite the repatriation of laundered assets
Newly appointed Bangladesh Bank Governor Mostaqur Rahman has called for urgent steps to recover money siphoned out of the country.
The directive was shared with reporters this afternoon (2 March) by Arief Hossain Khan, executive director and spokesperson of the central bank.
According to him, the governor held a meeting earlier on the day with a consultant of the Stolen Asset Recovery task force to accelerate efforts to bring back illicitly transferred funds.
During the meeting, the governor instructed officials to intensify and streamline the recovery process to ensure tangible results.
He also directed that the initiative be placed on a "fast-track" footing to expedite the repatriation of laundered assets.
The move signals the central bank's renewed focus on strengthening institutional mechanisms and international cooperation to retrieve funds that were illegally moved abroad.
Mostaqur Rahman was appointed governor of Bangladesh Bank for a four-year term, replacing Ahsan H Mansur.
The Financial Institutions Division (FID) of the finance ministry issued a gazette notification to this end on 25 February.
