Bank accounts of 18 journalists, including Quddus Afrad, Prabhas Amin, frozen

The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has ordered to freeze the bank accounts of 18 journalists, including Dhaka Journalists Union (DUJ) President Quddus Afrad and ATN News Chief News Editor Nurul Amin Prabhas. 

A letter sent by the BFIU yesterday directed to freeze their bank accounts and accounts they hold under private organisations for the next thirty days.

The list also includes former managing director of Bangladesh Journalists Welfare Trust Subhash Chandra Badal, Mobashwira Farzana Mithila of Ekattor TV, executive editor of Dainik Janakantha Swadesh Roy, former managing director of Somoy TV Ahmed Jobayer, Dhaka Bangla Media and Communication Director Salauddin Chowdhury, and Journalist Farah Ahsan.

Journalist Zulfikar Ali Manik, Journalist Masuda Bhatti, former Deputy Press Secretary to ex-premier Ashraful Alam Khokan, Editor of Daily Observer Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury and his daughter Sabrina Mahjabin, DBC News Chairman Shahidul Ahsan, Dhaka Bangla Media and Communication Director Rahnuma Ahsan and her husband Mahbuba Helen, Mohammad Manjurul Islam and Mohammad Shafiqul Ahsan of the same organisation were also on the list.
