7 more int'l flights cancelled at Ctg airport amid Middle East conflict; total cancellations reach 116
At least seven international flights were cancelled at Shah Amanat International Airport on Saturday as air travel disruptions continue due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and restrictions at several regional airports.
According to the airport's latest press bulletin, airfields in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah remain partially closed, while the airfield in Doha is still completely shut.
Because of the restrictions, a total of seven international flights to and from Chattogram were cancelled today (14 March).
Among them, Biman Bangladesh Airlines cancelled one arrival flight from Dubai and one departure flight from Chattogram.
Meanwhile, US-Bangla Airlines cancelled one arrival flight from the Middle East and two departure flights.
Another airline, SalamAir, cancelled one arrival flight from Muscat and one departure flight bound for the same destination.
Despite the cancellations, several flights continued operating. Six arrival flights carrying passengers from Middle Eastern destinations and four departure flights from Chattogram operated throughout the day.
Airport authorities said flight operations on the Chattogram–Sharjah and Chattogram–Dubai routes by Biman Bangladesh Airlines, Air Arabia and US-Bangla Airlines have started returning to near-normal levels.
Since 28 February, when the conflict began affecting regional aviation, a total of 116 international flights have been cancelled at Shah Amanat International Airport, including Saturday's seven cancellations, the airport said.
Engineer Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil, public relations officer of the airport, confirmed the figures in the latest press briefing.
