Legal notice seeks commission to ensure agro-products’ fair price
A Supreme Court lawyer on Tuesday sent a legal notice to the government to take an initiative within seven days to form a commission

A Supreme Court lawyer has served a legal notice to the relevant government authorities for setting up a commission to ensure fair prices of agriculture products, broiler chicken and dairy milk.
Advocate Anwarul Islam on Tuesday sent the notice by post to the agriculture ministry, law ministry and commerce ministry.
The notice says the lawyer will file a writ petition with the High Court if the authorities do not take steps within seven days to form a commission.
The lawyer said farmers do not get fair prices for their produce. Rather, middlemen become the ultimate beneficiaries. However, consumers are compelled to pay high prices for the products.
The notice seeks the commission to set the prices of seasonal agriculture products such as vegetables, broiler chicken and dairy milk, apart from rice, wheat, maize, onion and garlic, Anwarul Islam said.
Farmers grow agro-products by spending a sizable amount of money on fertiliser and fuel as well as by using their hard work. Now they are losing interest in cultivation for not getting fair prices of their produce.
"So, I have sent a notice to the authorities concerned for ensuring the fair prices of the agriculture products," he told journalists.
