Dr Abeda Khatun, director of Horticulture Research Centre, Bari and coordinator of the development project, inaugurated the programme as chief guest.

In her speech, Abeda Khatun said there is a huge opportunity to cultivate different types of horticultural crops including flowers, fruits and vegetables in open spaces and on the rooftops in urban areas.

She said, "Along with contributing to overall economic development of the country, this will also play a special role in protecting the environment of urban areas. It is possible to reduce the temperature by a few degrees by gardening in open space and on the roof in urban areas."

Dr SM Sharifuzzaman, director, Tuber Crops Research Centre, Dr Kabita Anzu-Man-Ara, chief scientific officer of Floriculture Division, Bari and Principal Investigator (Component-1) of the project, among others, were also present on the occasion.
