ADB to help Bangladesh develop urban water supply, sanitation
The projects are Secondary Towns Water Supply and Sanitation Project, and Narayanganj Urban Development Project
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide Bangladesh government with a loan of $11 million to help develop two priority urban sector projects in water supply and sanitation.
In this connection, the bank and the government signed an agreement on Monday.
The assistance under the Urban Infrastructure Improvement Preparatory Facility will help manage the technical and implementation issues upfront to secure high readiness of the ensuing investment projects.

The projects are Secondary Towns Water Supply and Sanitation Project under the Department of Public Health Engineering, and Narayanganj Urban Development Project under the Narayanganj City Corporation.
Monowar Ahmed, secretary of Economic Relations Division (ERD), and Manmohan Parkash, country director of the Asian Development Bank, signed the agreement on behalf of Bangladesh and the bank respectively at a ceremony in Dhaka.
"This facility will help prepare priority urban projects by addressing technical and implementation issues so that investment projects are implemented quickly with the highest standards," said Manmohan Parkash.
The project will support Department of Public Health Engineering in preparing water supply and sanitation investment projects in selected secondary towns and city corporations where development is lagging.
The facility is in line with the government's Seventh Five-Year Plan, which targets to provide 100% of the urban population with access to an improved water source, and 60% of city dwellers with sanitation facilities.
