Cyclone Bulbul has bashed the coastal line of Satkhira district last night leaving hundreds in destitute as 50,000 houses were devastated.

Gabura Union Parishad Chairman GM Masudul Alam said, "Most of the houses in the area were mud huts, thus, the storm destroyed more than 5,000 shanties and fish hatcheries."

Burigoalini Union Parishad Chairman Bhobotosh Mondal said, "The gusty wind of the cyclonic storm severed the road communication in that area and swept away the fish hatcheries.

"There were more than 2,000 shanties in the union and all were damaged, trapping many people under chunks of earth. We are trying to rescue them."

However, no houses were left untouched by the storm in the district's Ashashuni upazila.

Shriula Union Parishad Chairmen of Ashashuni upazila Abu Hena Shakil said, "All the residents of the area took shelter in cyclone centers"
