"The areas will remain locked down until further instructions from the administration," Additional Deputy Commissioner (Overall) Shamim Hossain said.

He requested everyone to complete necessary shopping by Wednesday 12 noon.

"No one can enter or exit the declared red zone areas during the lockdown period," he added.

In addition, no vehicles will be allowed in the areas. However, the administration, police, army, doctors and other health workers will be able to provide humanitarian assistance, carry out relief activities and transport agricultural material and goods, he said.

On Monday, 14 more people from Bandarban district tested positive for Covid-19 after testing their samples at the PCR lab at Cox's Bazar Medical College. Later, on Tuesday afternoon, the administration decided to put the areas under lockdown.

Civil Surgeon Dr Angsupru Marma said, "The number of infected patients in the area now stands at 63. Of these, 30 are from Sadar upazila and 5 from Ruma upazila. 15 people have returned home after recovering.
