The ongoing lockdown in Satkhira district has been extended for another seven days due to the rising rate of coronavirus infections.

The decision was made in a meeting of the District Corona Prevention Committee on Thursday. The announcement was made by Deputy Commissioner SM Mostafa Kamal at 2:30 pm.

Satkhira Deputy Commissioner, SM Mostafa Kamal, said "The local administration has decided to extend the ongoing lockdown as the rate of coronavirus infection has been on the rise in the district."

The fresh lockdown will be effective until 12 pm of 18 June, he said.

Earlier on 3 June, a seven-day lockdown was imposed in the district from 5 June following the decision of the District Corona Prevention Committee.

Due to the rising trend of coronavirus infections, the district health department has recommended to extend the lockdown, said the member secretary of the district corona prevention committee and Satkhira Civil Surgeon Md Hussain Safayat.
