Dedicated corona isolation hospital launched in Rangpur
A Dedicated Corona Isolation Hospital (DCIH) was launched today at 100-bed Rangpur Shishu Hospital (RSH) to provide treatments to coronavirus (COVID-19) infected patients of Rangpur division.
As an extended part of Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH), the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) established the DCIH where installation of ten-bed intensive care unit (ICU) for critical COVID-19 patients completed on Saturday.
Divisional Commissioner KM Tariqul Islam formally inaugurated the DCIH in an informal function held on its premises with Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Amin Ahmed Khan in the chair.

Chief of the Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College (RMC) Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Laizu, Director of RMCH Dr. Faridul Islam Chowdhury, Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan and Civil Surgeon Dr. Herambo Kumar Roy were present.
The DCIH has all modern facilities like the 10-bed ICU with ventilators, two residential quarters for physicians and one quarter for nurses.
A total of 64 staff, including 11 physicians, will provide treatments and health services to the COVID-19 infected patients in the 100-bed hospital and emergency services to cortically sick patients of Rangpur division at the 10-bed ICU round the clock.
Talking to BSS, Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said there are two sections, including green zone and red zone, in the DCIH where movements of the relatives of under-treatment COVID-19 patients will remain limited to prevent spread of infection of the deadly virus.
"We have another three beds at the ICU at A Rahim Medical College Hospital in Dinajpur of the division for providing treatment support to the COVID-19 patients in critical conditions," he said.
He said around 40 percent COVID-19 infected patients do not experience any complication in general and take treatments at home while some 40 percent need treatments at the hospitals.
"Eight to 12 percent of the other 20 percent COVID-19 infected patients need ICU and ventilator supports. Such patients in critical conditions will be given treatments at the ICU beds in Rangpur and Dinajpur, if needed, in the division" Dr. Khan said.
He said the government is taking more steps to provide treatments to COVID-19 patients and considering using the ICU beds, facilities and equipment available at different private sector hospitals in the division if the situation deteriorates in the future.
