Bankers will get priority in the government's vaccination programme to combat further spread of Covid-19.

Earlier, Health Services Division Secretary Abdul Mannan declared that the front liners will be given first priority. Now bankers have also been added to the list, according to the latest Ministry of Health directive.

The Financial Institutions Department of the health ministry recently sent a letter to the Central Bank asking for a list of the frontline bank officials and employees.

The Banking Regulation and Policy Department (BRPD) of the Central Bank on 21 January issued a directive in this regard.

As per the directive, the list of bankers should be sent to the relevant e-mail address by 3 pm on 21 January.

In order to send the list, one has to follow the specific column directed by the central bank.

On 21 January, the consignment of 20 lakh doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, gifted by India, arrived home.

Besides, Bangladesh is bringing 3 crore shots of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine from India's Serum Institute.

Bangladesh plans to start countrywide vaccination from 8 February after a week's trial run.

Another 400-500 health workers will be vaccinated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Kurmitola General Hospital, Mugda General Hospital, and Kuwait-Bangladesh Friendship Hospital the next day.

In the meantime, the first shipment of 50 lakh doses purchased from the Serum Institute of India will also have arrived on 25 January.
