The capital's Gabtoli Bus Terminal is witnessing a heavy rush of homebound people on the day before of the suspension of road transportation across the country, declared by the government to curb the spread of Coronavirus infection.

"Using public transport at the time of a coronavirus outbreak is risky but staying in Dhaka seems riskier," Md Akash, who works at a private company in Dhaka, told The Business Standard. Akash is going to his hometown Faridpur.

Md Rashed, a tailor who lives with his family in Dhaka's Diyabari area, said he is moving to his home town with his five years old son out of fear that the situation of a coronavirus outbreak may worsen further.

Azizul Haque, bus counter master of Sohag Transport, said that the bus counters were crowded with homebound people for the last couple of days.

"The bus counters of Shohagh Paribahan were seen more crowded today," he said. He further said that the rush of passengers may increase further after evening.

The government has ordered a suspension of all modes of transport after announcing general holidays from March 26 to April 4 as part of its efforts to enforce social distancing effectively in order to slow the spread of coronavirus.

Trains and river vessels were shut down from last evening while buses across the country will stop plying from tomorrow.
