Banglalink secures Fastest Mobile Network award

Banglalink has clinched the Ookla Speedtest Award as the fastest mobile network in the country for the first two quarters of 2020.

The award is given based on user-initiated results generated from Ookla's Speedtest app. Banglalink secured the award with a Speed Score of 15.09 in the above-mentioned period.

Meanwhile, Grameenphone, the country's largest mobile phone operator, has secured the second position with a Speed Score of 11.25.

With millions of results obtained through the Speedtest app each day, Ookla has the most accurate and comprehensive view of worldwide network performance, quality and accessibility.

In the first and second quarter of this year, Banglalink had the highest 12.78 Mbps speed, while the country's all the operators' average download speed was 10.29 Mbps.

On the other hand, the download speed of Grameenphone, Robi and Teletalk was 9.96 Mbps, 9.58 Mbps and 6.39 Mbps respectively.

Meanwhile, Grameenphone had the highest 7.31 Mbps upload speed against the country's four operators' 6.73 Mbps average speed.

In this sub-section, Banglalink's speed was 6.73 Mbps.

Banglalink officials said in 2018, the operator procured the highest amount of spectrum from the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission to stay competitive in the market, and now the initiative is paying off with the high-quality user experience in data services.

Recently, Banglalink has refreshed its existing logo consisting of the famous tiger stripes representing the Bangladeshi spirit of courage and winning despite facing challenges, which highlights the company's zeal to provide the best services to its customers.

Commenting on the results, Upanga Dutta, chief commercial officer of the company, said, "At Banglalink, we firmly believe that superior internet speed is key to unlocking advanced digital services for our customers. For this reason, enhancing network-quality has always been one of our top priorities. We are immensely proud of being awarded as the fastest mobile network by Ookla."

"Our endeavour will remain to offer the best user-experience to our digitally-empowered customers wherever we provide our services. To mark this great achievement, we have also unveiled a redesigned logo of Banglalink, which stands for our advancement as a digitally-savvy telecom service provider while keeping our Bangladeshi spirit of courage and winning intact," he added.

Pierre Boutros Obeid, chief technology officer of the operator, said, "We consider this award to be an acknowledgment of the technological advancement we have made over time for providing best-in-class digital services to customers."

He said with the highest amount of spectrum per customer among all the private operators in the country, Banglalink has focused on modernising its infrastructure and expanding the strong 4G network in recent times.

"Thanks to such technological endeavours and a great customer-obsessed team spirit, we have managed to achieve this remarkable milestone," he added.

Commenting on Banglalink's achievement, Doug Suttles, chief executive officer of Ookla, said, "We are pleased to present Banglalink with the award for Fastest Mobile Network in Bangladesh. This recognition is testament to their exceptional performance in Q1-Q2 2020 based on Ookla's rigorous analysis of consumer-initiated tests taken with Speedtest."
