Saif Powertec Limited, a publicly traded company on Sunday handed over 100 laptops and Tk1.80 crore for 1000 students as scholarship to Sheikh Russel Jatiya Shishu Kishore Parishad marking the 57th birthday of Sheikh Russell, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Managing Director of the listed company at stock exchange Tarafdar Mohammad Ruhul Amin handed over these to founding Chairman of the organization Rakibur Rahman at Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) while Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina virtually took part there.

Organized by Sheikh Russel Jatiya Shishu Kishore Parishad, State minister for information and communication technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak, the Parishad's secretary general Mahmudus Samad Chowdhury, its advisor Sirajul Islam Molla, among others also attended there.

However, the meritorious students who achieved GPA-5 in the secondary examination this year were given honorary mementos and prizes as well as the winners of the chess competition there.

Sheikh Hasina said the children of the country will be patriot, good human being, worthy citizen, serve the people and educate themselves with modern education.

Talking about the coronavirus pandemic that forced the schools to be shutdown, she said, "This is very much painful for the children."

PM Sheikh Hasina advised the children to continue their studies at home with utmost attention, and other activities so that whenever the schools open, they can join without a hitch.

Mentioning that her youngest brother Sheikh Russell was born on October 18 in 1964, Sheikh Hasina said, "Today is the birthday of Sheikh Russell. But he had to go forever at the strike of bullets of the assassins on August 15 in 1975 and thus a flower was falling off at its buds."

The engineering support and services company has emerged as a socially responsible corporate citizen in last couple of years. On the wake of the pandemic this year it further extended its arm of humanity being it participation in the prime minister's relief fund, donating oxygen cylinders or protective equipment to hospitals.

Besides, the Saif Powertec contributed Tk2crore to the Prime Minister's Relief and Welfare Fund recently to help fight the virus.
