We are on the brink of Industrie 4.0: GP CEO

Bangladesh is on the brink of the fourth industrial revolution (Industrie 4.0) which will radically alter the way of living, work and communication, Grameenphone (GP) CEO Yasir Azman said on Sunday.

Delivering a keynote speech on a programme marking the end of GP Explorer 1.0, Azman said, "The transformation will be unlike anything humankind has experienced before."

In the evolving world talent will dominate more than capital, he said.

According to a press release, Grameenphone virtually organised a Demo Day for GP Explorer 1.0 with Batch 1 graduates on the day.

GP Explorer 1.0 allowed students from the Islamic University of Technology (IUT) to gain insights into how the industry works, and learn design thinking skills, it added.

The graduates of Batch 1 of GP Explorer 1.0 are: Sadat, Rafid, Aseer, Shafi, Zahin, Aftab, Sharara, Afrin, Saad, and Afra.

The students gained numerous life skills from the programme, such as looking for insights through user research methods and problem statement defining, exploring possible solutions co-creating with customers and building quick and dirty prototypes for their proposed solutions.

On Demo Day, the final participants showcased their new skills in front of experts including Professor Imran Rahman, dean, School of Business at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh; and Dr Charisma Choudhury, associate professor, Institute for Transport Studies and School of Civil Engineering, University of Leeds.

Additionally, Dr Khondokar Habibul Kabir, professor, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Islamic University of Technology; Solaiman Alam, chief digital and strategy officer, Grameenphone; Farhana Islam, its head of innovation; and Khairul Basher, GP's head of communications also joined the programme.

The graduates will receive endorsements, certificates and recommendation letters from Grameenphone, helping them to start their careers. The graduates will also get the opportunity to engage with future batches as trainers and forerunners. They will be engaged as researchers for future projects too.

Grameenphone has already launched GP Explorer 2.0, where the company is planning to upskill 300 students across the nation in three areas— communication, entrepreneurship and digital marketing.
