Zahirul Islam made BSBRA acting president
Mohammed Zahirul Islam, director of PHP Family and managing director of PHP Ship Breaking and Recycling Industry, has been appointed as the acting president of the Bangladesh Ship Breakers and Recyclers Association (BSBRA).
Previously, he served as the vice president of the organisation.
Confirming the matter, Mohammad Siddique, secretary of BSBRA, told The Business Standard, "President Abu Taher has been unwell and expressed his inability to perform his duties. The executive committee held a meeting today and entrusted Vice President Zahirul Islam with the charge of acting president until the next election."

Abu Taher was first elected as BSBRA president in 2014 and was re-elected for the next five consecutive terms until 2023. Meanwhile, Zahirul Islam became an executive committee member in 2008 and was later elected vice president in 2016, a position he held until his recent appointment as acting president by the executive committee.
