Youth hacked to death in Kushtia over arms, drug trade dispute
The victim, Jony Hossain, 32, was known locally as an associate of Sohan, who is widely identified in the area as an arms and drug dealer.
A young man was brutally hacked to death in broad daylight in the Mahishkundi Mathpara area of Ramkrishnapur Union in Kushtia's Daulatpur Upazila today (29 November).
The victim, Jony Hossain, 32, was known locally as an associate of Sohan, who is widely identified in the area as an arms and drug dealer.
Confirming the incident, Daulatpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Olaiman Sheikh said, "A person has been murdered in Mahishkundi Mathpara. Our team is at the scene collecting information. Legal action will be taken against those involved once the investigation is complete."
According to local sources, a longstanding dispute over unpaid dues and drug-related dealings had been brewing between Jony and Sohan. The conflict escalated yesterday (28 November) during a heated argument, when associates of Sohan allegedly beat Jony severely. Sohan also reportedly issued death threats during the altercation.
Fearing for his life, Jony had taken shelter in the Mahishkundi Mathpara area that same day. Around 1:00pm today, while he was on his way home, a group of 50 to 60 people – led by Sohan – reportedly surrounded him and hacked him to death with sharp weapons. The attackers also fired several blank rounds, triggering panic in the neighbourhood.
