Writ seeks HC directive for compensation to student movement victims

A writ petition has been filed with the High Court seeking government initiative on five issues, including compensation for the victims of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
Monir Munna, a resident of Uttara who was injured during the protests, filed the petition today (9 October), said the petitioner's lawyer Rowshan Ali.
The home secretary, law secretary, finance secretary, inspector general of police, and deputy commissioner of Dhaka have been made respondents in the writ.

Lawyer Rowshan Ali told the media that the government should immediately pay compensation to families of those killed and injured during the movement.
Additionally, he said a complete list of victims, including the injured and deceased, should be prepared.
The writ also sought the need for the government to provide necessary medical care and rehabilitation for the injured, especially specialised treatment for the seriously wounded.
To ensure a transparent and efficient process for distributing compensation, the writ proposed the formation of a committee to develop a clear compensation policy.
This committee would establish specific criteria and guidelines for assessing and distributing compensation, said the lawyer.
He said the writ suggested the establishment of an independent authority to oversee compensation efforts and ensure transparency and accountability.
The lawyer said a hearing on the writ is likely to be held next week.
