Would-be groom killed in road crash while returning from wedding shopping

A youth died in a road crash on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Shayestaganj upazila of Habiganj just two days before his wedding, said police this morning (20 February).
The deceased Shah Alam, 26, son of Sabed Ali was returning home from Habiganj town by a motorcycle after shopping for the wedding scheduled tomorrow (21 February), police and family said.
The would-be groom's companion Suyem Mia, 25, also died in the accident involving their bike and a speeding truck.
The youths hailed from Brahmandura village of the upazila.
The speeding truck rammed into their bike from behind when they fell on the highway after the bike lost control in Nurpur area of the upazila on Wednesday evening, witnesses said.
The accident left Suyem dead on the spot and Shah Alam critically injured, said Shayestaganj police station's Officer-in-Charge Taimur Islam.
Alam was also declared dead when he was taken to a nearby private hospital, he added.
