Woman dies, 4 family members burned in Gazipur gas cylinder blast

A woman died and four other members of her family, including children, were severely burned in a gas cylinder explosion at a house in the Mogorkhal area under Basan police station in Gazipur city.
The explosion occurred yesterday night (27 April). All the injured were rushed to the emergency unit of the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka, where one of them died while undergoing treatment today morning.
The deceased was identified as Seema Akter, 30, wife of Md Alhaj Uddin.
The injured are Parvin Akter, 35, and her one-and-a-half-year-old son Ayaan, Taslima Begum, 30, and her 10-year-old daughter Tanzila Begum.
Officer-in-Charge of Basan Police Station Sajib Ahmed said the explosion occurred around 7pm on Sunday.
Locals rescued the injured and rushed them to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery around 11:30pm. Later, Seema Akter succumbed to her injuries.
Seema Akter's husband, Md Alhaj Uddin, said both of them worked at a garment factory and lived in a rented house.
Around 7pm on Sunday, a gas cylinder exploded at a neighbouring house while cooking was underway. Flames from the explosion engulfed Seema and four others, he said.
Dr Shawon Bin Rahman, a resident surgeon at the Burn Institute, said, "All of them suffered burns covering more than 80% of their bodies. They were given emergency treatment and kept under observation."
