Woman arrested after man killed, body severed into six pieces in Ctg
They arrested Sufia Akter, 39, on Thursday night, identifying her as the prime accused in the killing of Mohammad Anis, 38, after a 24-hour investigation.
Police have arrested a woman on charges of killing her alleged lover and severing his body into six pieces following a breakdown in their relationship in Chattogram's Bayezid area.
They arrested Sufia Akter, 39, on Thursday night (22 January), identifying her as the prime accused in the killing of Mohammad Anis, 38, after a 24-hour investigation.
Anis had been missing since 20 January. According to investigators, the murder was the culmination of mounting resentment and deep-seated anger following a long-running personal dispute between the two.
Speaking at a press briefing at Bayezid Bostami Police Station last night (23 January), Amirul Islam, deputy commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) (North Zone), said, "Over time, repeated disagreements created tension between them, eventually turning into deep-seated anger."
"The accused had planned the killing in advance. On the afternoon of 20 January, Anis was allegedly called to Sufia's residence in the Pathanpara area, where he was later killed," the officer added.
The incident came to public attention early on 21 January, when police recovered two severed hands wrapped in black polythene from the Shahidnagar Chattola Mor area.
While the victim was initially unidentified, investigators were eventually able to confirm the remains belonged to Anis through his National Identity (NID) Card and information provided by his family members.
After confirming that Anis had been missing since the previous afternoon, police intensified their probe and traced Sufia as the prime suspect.
She was arrested around 4am on 22 January. During interrogation, she reportedly confessed to the killing and provided detailed information that led police to recover additional body parts from different locations.
Police said that legal proceedings are currently underway and further investigation is continuing to determine whether others were involved.
