The Ministry of Finance has allocated around Tk90 crore for the hospitality of vaccinators and volunteers involved in the Covid-19 vaccination programme across the country.

Finance Secretary Mohammad Abu Yusuf informed Health Secretary Mohammad Abdul Mannan about the allocation through a letter on Wednesday.

The allocated money should be spent in accordance with the government's procurement policy along with financial rules and regulations, and the unspent money should be deposited in the government treasury, reads the letter.

The Ministry of Finance has allocated Tk89 crore 85 lakh 60 thousand from the Covid-19 Prevention Fund of the current financial year's budget of the economic division.

The ministry set up a fund of Tk10,000 crore in the current financial year to address the pandemic.

The Department of Health has proposed an allocation of Tk14 crore 17 lakh 38 thousand for publicity and advertising in the implementation of the vaccination programme. However, no allocation has been made here.

The finance department in the letter requested that the expenditure on publicity and advertisement be spent from the health department's own budget.

The Department of Health will start implementing the vaccination programme across the country from Sunday. In the first month, 35 lakh people will be vaccinated, said Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam, director general of the health department.
