United States National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan has spoken with Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus over the phone, reiterating continued US support for the democratic process of Bangladesh.
At the time, both expressed their commitment to respecting and protecting rights of all people, regardless of religion, according to a White House statement.
Sullivan called Yunus on Monday evening to discuss the issues of mutual interest, said the Chief Adviser's Press Wing today (24 December).
He praised the leadership of Yunus in the past four and a half months after assuming the role of the chief adviser of the interim government on 8 August, it said.
Sullivan also commended him for the progress that Bangladesh has already made in turning around the economy and for initiating vital political, election, and other reforms, reports BSS.
The US national security adviser thanked Yunus for announcing the possible election dates as well and offered continued US support for the democratic process of the country.
During the phone call, they also discussed the overall development situation in the country.
The chief adviser thanked the US for its generous and vital support in this challenging period for Bangladesh and in overcoming the inherited problems.
Yunus said he is expecting reports of six major reform commissions within January.
After that, the consensus-building process will begin to prepare the nation for reforms and elections, he said.
During the conversation, Sullivan reconfirmed US support for the Yunus-led interim government and a prosperous, stable, and democratic Bangladesh.
