DSCC demarcation, eviction drives at Shyampur Canal begin
Eight temporary structures were removed, and 20 permanent structures were identified for eviction at a later date
The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has started the demarcation and eviction of illegal structures at Shyampur Canal.
From Sunday onwards, DSCC Executive Magistrate, Md Moniruzzaman, has started demarcating Shyampur Canal and evicting all illegal structures located within the canal boundaries, according to a press release.
The drive removed eight temporary illegal structures, and identified 20 permanent structures for eviction at a later date.

Regarding the demarcation and eviction drive, Md Moniruzzaman said, "Most of the Shyampur Canal was illegally occupied, which caused waterlogging in the adjoining areas. Demarcation of the canal and eviction of illegal structures will continue as per the Mayor's instructions."
Chief Waste Management Officer at DSCC, Air Commodore Md Badrul Amin, said, "The Mayor has adopted projects to rescue the canals and water bodies. To start the project, we have been instructed to conduct cleanliness drives in Shyampur, Jirani, Manda and Kalunagar canals."
Accordingly, on 6 November, we launched waste removal and cleanliness drives at Shyampur canal, he said.
The demarcation, eviction, waste removal and clean-up drives in the areas will continue, he added, according to the statement.
Meanwhile, a mobile court was conducted in Ward 15 of the city on Sunday as part of regular mosquito control activities.
The mobile court headed by DSCC Executive, Magistrate Md Kazi Faisal, conducted the drive in Dhanmondi area of Ward 15 under Zone-1.
During the drive, Aedes larvae was found in one installation amongst the 36 structures visited. A case was filed and owner was fined Tk15,000.
