UK high commissioner meets IGP, offers support for police capacity building
The high commissioner highlighted organised international crime, irregular migration, human trafficking, money laundering, visa fraud and forged document verification as key areas for training and cooperation
The High Commissioner of the United Kingdom (UK) Sarah Cooke, today (15 April) paid a courtesy call on Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir at Police Headquarters.
During the meeting, the UK high commissioner congratulated the newly appointed IGP and expressed interest in supporting capacity-building initiatives for the Bangladesh Police.
She highlighted areas such as tackling organised international crime, irregular migration, human trafficking, money laundering, visa fraud, and the verification of forged documents as key sectors for potential training and cooperation.

Sarah Cooke also expressed interest in sharing the UK's experience in police reform to assist Bangladesh in strengthening its law enforcement framework.
The IGP welcomed the UK's willingness to cooperate and briefed the High Commissioner on Bangladesh Police's short-, medium-, and long-term reform plans.
He emphasised the importance of international support, particularly from the United Kingdom, in enhancing the force's overall capacity and effectiveness.
Senior officials of Bangladesh Police were present at the meeting.
