Two electrocuted in waterlogged building in Chattogram

A security guard and a teenager died after being electrocuted by rainwater that had become electrically charged in the MM Ali Road area of Chattogram city this morning (18 May).
Chawkbazar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Zahidul Kabir confirmed the deaths.
The incident occurred near Bashar Villa on MM Ali Road, following overnight rain yesterday, which caused waterlogging in several parts of the city.
The deceased have been identified as Tayeb (45), son of Nur Jahan from Purba Gol Mogra area in Mirsarai, and Rabiul (14), son of Humayun from Jabirpara in Pakundia upazila of Kishoreganj.
Tayeb was the security guard at the building while Rabul was one of the tenants of the building.
OC Zahidul Kabir said, "Rainwater had accumulated under the staircase on the building's ground floor following Saturday night's downpour. The two individuals were working there when they were electrocuted. They were rescued and taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), where doctors pronounced them dead."
An unnatural death case will be filed in connection with the incident, he said.
Nurul Alam Asheq, in-charge of the CMCH police outpost, said, "The two were brought to the hospital in critical condition after being electrocuted. The on-duty doctors at the emergency unit declared them dead upon arrival."
Their bodies have been kept in the hospital morgue and will be handed over to the families, he added.
