Two Ctg SAD leaders expelled over extortion allegations

Two leaders of the Student Against Discrimination's (SAD) Chattogram Metropolitan Committee have been expelled from their organisational positions following allegations of extortion, the student group announced yesterday evening (17 May).
The expulsions come shortly after the removal of the unit's spokesperson, Fatema Khanam Liza, over allegations of drug abuse.
In two separate expulsion notices signed by SAD Metropolitan Committee Convenor Arif Moinuddin and Member Secretary Nizam Uddin, it was confirmed that Abul Bashir Naeem and Shahriar Sikder were dismissed from their posts.
Abul Bashir Naeem, who held the position of joint member secretary, was expelled following allegations of harassing a businessman and demanding extortion in the Bandar Police Station area, according to the official order.
In another notice, Shahriar Sikder, an organiser of the same committee, was expelled after being detained by Double Mooring police in connection with extortion allegations. The decision was also influenced by a recent investigative report aired on a TV channel, the organisation said.
Earlier, SAD removed spokesperson Fatema Khanam Liza after photos and videos of alleged drug use and disorderly behavior went viral on social media. The organisation stated that the decision was made to maintain the discipline and reputation of the student movement.
However, Fatema Khanam Liza, in a Facebook live, denied the allegation against her and gave a two-hour ultimatum to the convener and member secretary to provide evidence of her drug abuse. She also threatened to take legal action against the two top leaders if they failed to provide proper evidence.
