Transport workers block Mohakhali for 3hrs protesting dumping of unfit buses
Transport workers withdrew the blockade around 6pm, but severe congestion continues as traffic gradually returns to normal.
Transport workers blocked Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Sarani in Dhaka's Mohakhali area for nearly three hours today (10 September), protesting the dumping of unfit buses by traffic police.
The blockade began around 3pm, with workers parking buses on both sides of the road in front of Mohakhali Bus Terminal, halting traffic in both directions.
The workers lifted the blockade around 6pm, allowing traffic to resume, said Mohammad Ziaur Rahman, additional deputy commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Gulshan Traffic Division.

However, severe congestion persisted in the area as traffic gradually returned to normal.
"It will take some time for traffic to return to normal," he told The Business Standard.
According to the Gulshan Traffic Division, the workers took to the streets after traffic police dumped buses that had been parked on the road.
The protesters demanded that buses sent to dumping yards be kept there for a maximum of 10 days instead of being held for months.
The blockade also caused heavy congestion on roads from Banani towards Tejgaon Industrial Area and from Moghbazar towards Mohakhali.
Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman had earlier said traffic police had dumped the buses after finding them parked on the road.
Police were in talks with the transport workers to resolve the situation, he had said.
