A tugboat named "Tiakhali-1" was launched on Saturday for Payra Port from Karnaphuli River in Chittagong.

The tugboat was built by Western Marine Shipyard in Chittagong. It is a tug with 60 Ton Bollard Pull, according to a press release issued by the company.

The press release claims that this is by far the most powerful tug in Bangladesh.

This tugboat shall expedite port activities through swift handling of inbound and outbound ships in Payra Port, added the press release.

Payra Port kicked off their operations in 2016 under Bangladesh's Ministry of Shipping. Located in the Patuakhali district of Barisal, the Shipping Ministry has plans to further expand the port by constructing a deep-sea terminal to handle coal and bulk cargo. This will make Payra Port the first deep-sea port in the country.

In January this year, Western Marine Shipyard exported two 5,200 DWT capacity cargo ships to India.
