Diploma engineering students disrupt train services between Dhaka and north for 40 minutes
The exam, scheduled for 13 and 15 August, had been delayed due to a writ petition filed by BSc engineering graduates

Train communications with Dhaka and the country's northern part were disrupted for around 40 minutes this morning (14 August) as a group of diploma engineering students blocked the rail track in Gazipurd emanding resumption of a postponed recruitment examination for the Dhaka Metro Rail section engineer post.
The demonstration began around 10am on the Joydebpur–Shimultoli regional road, where students initially blocked traffic before marching towards the Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (Duet) and later occupied the Dhaka-Rajshahi railway line.
Joydebpur Railway Junction Station Master Abul Hossain confirmed the incident, noting that the Dhaka-bound Bonolota Express had been held for 40 minutes from 11am. This disrupted overall train services and caused suffering to commuters.
Protesters said the exam, scheduled for 13 and 15 August, had been delayed due to a writ petition filed by BSc engineering graduates. They also voiced opposition to what they described as a conspiracy by BSc engineers to open the Grade 10 Sub-Assistant Engineer post to wider competition.
The students demanded that the recruitment process proceed without further delay and voiced opposition to what they described as a conspiracy by BSc engineers to open the Grade 10 Sub-Assistant Engineer post to wider competition.
The blockade was lifted at around 11:40am, after which the train resumed its journey and rail services between Dhaka and the northern districts returned to normal.
Following the disruption, the students continued their protest march towards Shibbari intersection in the city.
