Those who take extortion believe it's their right: Asif Mahmud
Some people also feel it is their duty to give extortion, he says

Despite the sacrifices made by countless martyrs during the July uprising, issues such as extortion and terrorism continue to persist, Local Government Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan said today (27 March).
"Those who take extortion believe it is their right, as this practice has been prevalent for a long time," he said while speaking at a Hifzul Quran competition programme in Cumilla.
Asif said, "The previous fascist rule has led to a situation in the country where some people also feel it is their duty to give extortion."
He went on to say, "I want to send a clear message to extortionists that no such practices will be tolerated after the July uprising."
Asif also expressed that the interim government aims to honour the sacrifices of the martyrs of the mass uprising by building a beautiful Bangladesh.
He vowed to tackle the issues that previously harmed the youth, including extortion and drug trafficking, with a firm hand.
He urged the country's youth to actively oppose extortion and prevent money from being taken in the form of tokens by various associations.
The Hifzul Quran competition, held in honour of Independence and National Day, saw participation from hundreds of competitors across Cumilla and neighbouring districts.
The competition featured three events, with 16 finalists selected, and 9 winners were awarded prizes. Advisor Asif Mahmud presented laptops to the winners.
Muradnagar Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Abdur Rahman presided over the programme, while Cumilla Deputy Commissioner Md Amirul Kaysar, District Police Superintendent Nazir Ahmed Khan, and Coordinator Ubaidul Haque Siddiqui were also in attendance.
The event was moderated by Maulana Mostafizur Rahman and Golam Mostafa.
