Teledensity nearing 100% in Bangladesh

Bangladesh's teledensity is on the verge of achieving the cent percent milestone as voice and Internet subscriptions reached 99.68% across the country at the end of November this year.
The total number of mobile phone subscribers reached 16.8367 crore during that period, going up by 2.98 lakh compared to October, according to a report published by the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) on Thursday.
Robi Axiata Ltd – the second largest mobile operator of the country – added nearly 2 lakh new subscribers in November, while market leader Grameenphone added only 8,000. Teledensity is the number of telephone connections for every hundred individuals living within an area.

Together, mobile operators had added 9 lakh new subscribers in October 2020. Though the operators maintained a positive growth in their subscriber base in November, they lost 2.01 lakh mobile Internet users during that period.
At the end of November, 10.1905 crore subscribers were using the Internet on their mobile devices, compared to 10.2106 crore users in October, the BTRC report mentioned.
Grameenphone's customer base reached 7.8129 crore at the end of November, while Robi Axiata's stood at 5.0592 crore, Banglalink's 3.5015 crore and Teletalk's 46.31 lakh at the same period.
Banglalink, the third largest mobile operator in Bangladesh, hit a new milestone in November as its total number of subscribers reached 3.5 crore, with nearly 1 lakh new users joining the network in that month alone.
Besides, the lone state-owned telecom operator Teletalk Ltd registered only 10,000 subscribers in the same month.
The number of Internet subscribers stood at 11.0561 crore at the end of November, including 86.56 lakh ISP and PSTN users.
