Currently, mobile phone talktimes and the internet have a total tax of 39%, including VAT, supplementary duties and surcharges.

"It will be increased again by 3% to 42%," an official of the National Revenue Board (NBR) told The Business Standard on condition of anonymity.
The official also said a process is underway to issue a directive in this regard.
According to telecom operators, a user now has to pay Tk39 for every Tk100 mobile top-up as indirect taxes. Meaning, they can get services worth Tk61.
If the taxes are hiked again, users will be able to avail services worth Tk58 in per Tk100
