Teen drowns in Sitakunda waterfall

A 17-year-old school student drowned while bathing in a natural waterfall named Sahasradhara-2 in Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram yesterday afternoon (14 June).
The deceased, Tahsin Anwar, was the only son of Lutfun Nahar, a deputy secretary and general manager at Jiban Bima Corporation. He was an SSC candidate at Chattogram Cantonment Public School and College.
The incident took place around 4:30pm in the Chhotodarogahat area of Baroierdhala union.
According to Sitakunda Fire Service Station Leader Machhindra Lal Tripura, a rescue team rushed to the scene after receiving a call around 4:45pm about a tourist drowning in the waterfall. They recovered Tahsin's body from under the water.
Machhindra Lal said, "Tahsin had come to the waterfall with a group of seven friends. Three of them entered the pool formed at the base of the waterfall, unaware of its depth. While two managed to get out safely, Tahsin began to drown."
"According to his friends, he was calling out for help, but they thought he was joking," the official said. "By the time they realised he was in real danger, it was too late."
Sitakunda Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mujibur Rahman said the body has been handed over to the family and a case of unnatural death is under process.
