Tarique to head newly formed Ecnec executive committee; Fakhrul alternate chairman
The Ecnec committee will consider and approve all investment project proposals, as well as Technical Assistance Project Proposals (TAPP) and Technical Project Proposals (TPP)
The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) has been newly constituted with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman as chairman and Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir as alternate chairman.
The Cabinet Division today (24 February) issued a gazette forming the Ecnec committee, with members including Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman, Commerce, Industries, Textiles and Jute Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir, Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman, and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam.
The gazette mentioned that if a project from any ministry is included on the Ecnec agenda for discussion, the minister of that ministry will be considered a member of Ecnec for that day.
The Cabinet secretary, the principal secretary to the prime minister, the Finance Division secretary, the Economic Relations Division secretary, the Statistics and Informatics Division secretary, the Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division secretary, the Planning Division secretary, and all members of the Planning Commission will serve as supporting officials to Ecnec.
The Ecnec committee will consider and approve all investment project proposals, as well as Technical Assistance Project Proposals (TAPP) and Technical Project Proposals (TPP), the notification added.
The gazette further said that the committee will also review and approve projects in the public sector with a total investment cost exceeding Tk50 crore, taking into consideration the recommendations of the Project Evaluation Committee (PEC).
Additionally, Ecnec will review the implementation progress of development projects.
It will also consider proposals from private initiatives, joint ventures, and participatory investment companies.
Ecnec will monitor the country's economic situation and review overall economic activities and related policy matters.
It will also consider and approve annual foreign aid targets and review progress in achieving those targets.
