Swiss ambassador, Jamaat leaders discuss political, democratic issues

Swiss Ambassador to Bangladesh Reto Renggli and leaders of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami discussed the country's current political situation, parliamentary democracy and democratic development at a meeting in Dhaka today (15 September).
The meeting was held at around 12:30pm in Baridhara.
The Swiss delegation was led by Ambassador Reto Renggli. Counsellor and Head of Political, Economic and Communication Affairs Alberto Giovanetti and Senior Political, Economic and Press Officer Khaled Iqbal Chowdhury were also present.

Jamaat was represented by Central Executive Council Member and MP Saiful Alam Khan Milon, Central Executive Council Member Advocate Matiur Rahman Akanda, and Ali Ahmad Mabrur, a member of the foreign affairs advisory committee to the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament.
The two sides exchanged views on Bangladesh's political situation, parliamentary democracy, good governance and the country's democratic progress.
The Jamaat delegation shared its views and experiences on parliamentary activities and discussed challenges facing the party as the main opposition.
They also discussed issues of mutual interest and Bangladesh's political and institutional development.
The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere, with both sides stressing the importance of dialogue, democratic practices and continued communication on matters of mutual interest.
