SRB-3 arrests 3 in separate Shahbagh, Paltan raids
Special Response Battalion-3 (SRB-3) arrested three alleged members of a sabotage ring in separate operations in the capital's Shahbagh and Paltan areas yesterday (21 September), recovering a locally made firearm, a shotgun cartridge and two knives, the battalion said.
The operations were conducted on the basis of intelligence as part of SRB's activities against terrorism, organised crime, illegal arms and ammunition and other criminal offences, according to the press release.
SRB said it has been working to combat various forms of crime, including terrorism and organised crime, and to recover illegal arms, ammunition and explosives.

The battalion also said its responsibilities include operations relating to cybercrime, enforced disappearance, land grabbing, violence against women and children, rape, human trafficking, abduction and crimes against humanity.
Acting on intelligence, an SRB-3 team conducted an operation at around 9:30pm yesterday on the road in front of Gate No 1 of the Osmani Memorial Auditorium under Shahbagh Police Station.
The team arrested Md Arman, 23, son of Islam Sikder of Hazariganj under Char Fasson Police Station in Bhola, and Manik Khan, 23, son of Riaz Khan of Shyampur under Bakerganj Police Station in Barishal.
SRB said a locally made shooter firearm weighing around 1.06kg and a green shotgun cartridge were recovered from Arman's possession during the operation.
In another operation at around 9:55pm on the same day, SRB-3 arrested Md Mehedi Hasan, 23, from Matiur Rahman Park under Paltan Police Station.
Mehedi is the son of Rafiq Akhan of Dakshin Gobindia under Chandpur Sadar Police Station in Chandpur.
SRB said that, based on information provided by Mehedi after his arrest, the team recovered two knives with wooden handles, five wooden sticks and a steel rod.
According to SRB, preliminary questioning of the three detainees indicated that they had allegedly been involved in acts of sabotage at different times in Shahbagh, Paltan and other important locations in the capital.
The battalion also claimed that the detainees acknowledged being organised and active members of a sabotage ring.
SRB alleged that the detainees had kept locally made weapons in their possession in coordination with one another and said the matter fell under sections 19A and 19(f) of the Arms Act, 1878.
Legal action has been taken against the three detainees, according to the release.
