A day after imposing strict entry restrictions to the Bangladesh Secretariat, the Ministry of Home Affairs has formed a special cell aiming to process applications for temporary entry passes.

The Public Security Division of the ministry issued an office order in this regard today, signed by Deputy Secretary (Admin-1) Md Aminul Islam.

'Access denied': What officials say about restriction on media entry to secretariat

The order states that applications for temporary entry passes will be received at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police's (DMP) Crime Command and Control Center, located on the opposite side of the Secretariat.

It also mentions that two officials from the ministry's Public Security Division have been assigned to oversee the cell.

FM Touhidul Alam, senior assistant secretary, and Mrityunjoy Baroi, office assistant-computer typist, have been attached to the cell.

Earlier on 26 December, the fire at the secretariat was brought under control after 19 units of the fire service worked for ten hours.

Yesterday (27 December), the ministry banned entry to the Bangladesh Secretariat for all, except the secretariat staff and government employees, for an indefinite period citing security reasons following the devastating fire in the administrative headquarters.

Even journalists with accreditation cards will not be able to enter the building until further notice.
