Six bills passed, 35 committees formed in third session of 13th parliament

The third session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad passed six bills and formed or reconstituted 35 parliamentary committees during its nine working days, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed said today (10 September).
The session, which began on 27 August, held nine sittings, with all six bills presented in parliament passed during the period. A special committee was also reconstituted, he said in his closing remarks.
Of 2,676 questions submitted by MPs for ministers to answer, 1,678 were answered during the session, while Prime Minister Tarique Rahman answered 15 of 144 questions submitted for him.

Under Rule 68 of the Rules of Procedure, seven notices were received, two of which were accepted and discussed. Of 15 notices submitted under Rule 71, 14 were discussed.
MPs also submitted 124 notices under Rule 71A for two-minute speeches. One of two notices submitted under Rule 147 was discussed, while one notice was raised under Rule 302.
Speaker calls for tolerance
In his closing remarks, Hafiz said differences of opinion were a natural feature of a democratic parliamentary system, but MPs should actively participate in parliamentary proceedings while maintaining mutual respect and a cordial environment.
He called on MPs to play a responsible role by putting national interests first and respecting parliamentary practices and procedures so that the hopes and aspirations of the people could be reflected in parliament.
The speaker said the 13th parliament came to office after a fair and impartial election held with public participation following a 17-year gap.
He thanked the prime minister, cabinet members, opposition leadership, MPs and others involved in running the session. He also acknowledged the media's role in covering parliamentary proceedings.
Hafiz then formally prorogued the third session after reading out the president's order, wishing peace, happiness and prosperity for the country and its people.
