Of this, 20,000 tonnes of Atap rice came from Vietnam, while 21,045 tonnes of parboiled rice arrived from India.
The rice was imported by the Food Ministry.
Ali Akbar, CEO of Seven Seas Shipping Lines — the local shipping agent handling the Food Ministry's rice shipments — said the vessel VTS Ocean departed from Kakinada Port in India on 24 April and reached Chattogram Port on 27 April.
He said the ship is currently awaiting berthing at the Chattogram Port Jetty.
After completing customs formalities and sample testing, the rice will be unloaded at the port's general cargo berth, he added.
Meanwhile, the vessel Thai Binh 09 departed from Ho Chi Minh Port in Vietnam on 11 April carrying 20,000 tonnes of Atap rice. It arrived at the Grain Silo Jetty in Chattogram on 23 April.
Following sample collection and customs procedures, the unloading process for this shipment is already underway.
Imdad Islam, senior information officer and public relations officer of the Food Ministry, said in a press release that the import of 20,000 tonnes of Atap rice from Vietnam is part of a Government-to-Government (G2G) agreement signed on 3 February.
According to the ministry, under this G2G deal, a total of 100,000 tonnes of Atap rice will be imported from Vietnam.
