Shilpakala Academy changes name of 'December Utshob' to 'Bijoy Utshob'

Shilpakala Academy has changed the name of their month-long festival to "Bijoy Utshob" from the initial "December Utshob" title in the face of criticism.
Shilpakala Academy has been observing various programmes in different districts starting 5 December to commemorate the victory month. The efforts were well received with only a few taking to social media to question the selection of the title asking why it is not called Bijoy Utshob and rather December Utshob.
In a promotional video released by the cultural organisation on Victory Day the name of the festival was seen to be "Bijoy Utshob."
In this regard, Shilpakala Academy Director General Syed Jamil Ahmed told media, "Shilpakala is always a people-friendly institution, a people-oriented institution. It will abide by what people want. It will always be for the people. That is how we are working."
He said, "We want to move away from the narrative that the former prime minister Sheikh Hasina created by capitalising on the Liberation War and using it for political interests."
