A 55-year-old security guard was killed in a road accident in the capital's Motijheel area this afternoon (1 April).

The incident occurred around 1pm in front of the Kamalapur BRTC counter when a bus on Route No. 6 hit him as he was crossing the road, police said, quoting the victim's son, Shakil.

The deceased, identified as Ruhul Amin Sheikh, was a security guard at Sabujbagh Kadamtala Purbo Bashabo School and College. He was the son of the late Moher Ali Sheikh and hailed from Nandasagar village in Sreepur, Gazipur district. He had been residing in the Purba Basabo area of Sabujbagh.

Upon being informed, a team from Motijheel Police Station, led by Sub-Inspector Abu Sale Shahin, rushed to the scene and sent the body to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for an autopsy at 2:40 pm.

Police said that the driver of the bus, along with the vehicle, was detained shortly after the incident.
