A school student was killed after being stabbed allegedly by his classmates in Chattogram's Hathazari.
The incident took place on this afternoon (21 October) in ward no 4 of Hathazari Municipality.
The victim, identified as Md Tanvir, 16, was a ninth-grade student at Alipur Rahmania School and College. He was the son of Abu Taleb, a resident of West Alinagar in the municipality.
Confirming the matter, Sub-Inspector (SI) Rupan Nath of Hathazari Police Station said, "Preliminary investigations revealed that a dispute had broken out among a group of ninth-grade students at the school.
"After school hours, Tanvir was attacked and beaten by several classmates on a road outside the school. He was critically injured and rushed to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival."
SI Rupan Nath added that a police operation is underway to apprehend those involved in the incident.
SI Alauddin Talukder, stationed at the Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) police outpost, reported that the victim was brought to the hospital around 6:00 PM. "He was declared dead upon arrival. He had been stabbed," Talukder said.
"According to the victim's relatives, Tanvir was attacked while trying to intervene and protect a friend who was being assaulted by a group of students, who were also reportedly his friends", he added.
"The body has been sent to CMCH morgue for an autopsy", SI Alauddin said.
