SC lawyer issues legal notice for Bangla language implementation in all institutions

A Supreme Court lawyer has sent a legal notice to government authorities, urging them to ensure the use of the Bengali language in all government offices, courts, semi-government, and autonomous institutions as per the Bengali Language Implementation Act of 1987.
The notice also calls for steps to include Bangla as an official language of the United Nations, according to court sources.
Supreme Court lawyer Khandaker Hasan Shahriar sent the notice via postal mail and email today (26 February) to the cabinet secretary, the secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the senior secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education among others.
The notice demands that within 30 days, all government offices, courts, semi-government, and autonomous institutions in Bangladesh must ensure the use of Bengali in all documents, correspondence, legal proceedings, verdicts, orders, and other official matters, except when communicating with foreigners.
Additionally, it calls for the mandatory use of Bangla on signboards, nameplates, advertisement boards, and television commercials.
It also urges the government to take necessary measures to ensure the proper use of Bangla in dramas, films, and media while working toward establishing Bangla as an official language of the United Nations and the Security Council.
