Satkhira nursing students protest attack on Nursing Council demonstrators

Nursing and midwifery students in Satkhira held a human chain programme protesting the recent attack on students at the Bangladesh Nursing and Midwifery Council (BNMC) building in Dhaka during a rally demanding graduate status for nursing diplomas.
The protest took place today (28 April) at 12 noon at Asif Chattar in Satkhira town.
During the demonstration, students alleged that the attack on their peers was carried out with the indirect support of the BNMC registrar and that police baton-charged and injured the protesting students.
They condemned the attack and said that the registrar will have to "pay the price for this."
They raised their one-point demand: the resignation of the registrar and the granting of graduate or degree equivalent status to diploma nurses.
Students Kajol Akter, Brishti Ascharya, Abdul Alim, and Nahid Parvez led the programme, which was attended by nursing and midwifery students from Satkhira.
Notably, nursing students across the country have been protesting, demanding that the Diploma in Nursing Science and Midwifery and the Diploma in Midwifery courses be recognised as equivalent to a graduate degree.
