Rucsu poll schedule revised with freshers' inclusion in voter list
However, nomination collection extended to 3 Sept, the election date remains unchanged
The Rajshahi University Election Commission has revised the schedule for the upcoming Rajshahi University Central Students' Union (Rucsu), hall unions, and Senate student representative elections, allowing newly enrolled students of the 2024–25 academic year to cast their votes.
Chief Election Commissioner Professor F Nazrul Islam confirmed the decision to the media today (2 September).
Previously, the deadline for collecting nomination papers was set for 31 August
According to the revised schedule with the inclusion of freshers, the deadline for collecting nomination papers has been extended to 3 September, while submissions will be accepted on 4 and 7 September.
Previously, the deadline for collecting nomination papers was set for 31 August.
Professor Nazrul said the move was made in response to long-standing student demands and to ensure broader participation in the polls.
The updated voter list has already been prepared and will be published on the university website by tonight.
However, the election date remains unchanged — 25 September.
Professor Nazrul further said ID cards and hall attachments for the new students will be issued quickly.
Additionally, dope test reports will be distributed through the university medical centre, with copies kept on record, he added.
The decision follows continuous protests by the Rajshahi University unit of the Chhatra Dal, which had been demanding that first-year students be included in the voter roll.
