RU students launch protest over 9-point demand

Students of Rajshahi University have launched a movement titled "March for Our Rights" to press home a 9-point demand aimed at improving campus facilities, student welfare, and administrative services.
Organised under the banner of RU Reform Movement, the protest began around 11am today (29 June) with students gathering at Paris Road on campus.
They brought out a procession that marched through key areas of the university and concluded in front of Administration Building-1, where they began a sit-in demonstration.
Protesters said the programme would continue until their demands are met.
"These 9 points of ours are not a luxury; these are the fundamental needs of university students. For years, we have been neglected; no more. The administration should implement these demands immediately," said Salauddin Ammar, spokesperson for the RU Reform Movement.
The 9-point demand raised by the students are:
- A roadmap for full residential facilities at RU.
- Implementation of effective 24/7 campus security.
- Anonymous script evaluation and script challenge facilities in exams.
- Conversion of the university medical centre into a full-fledged 50-bed facility.
- Full digitisation of administrative services.
- Infrastructural and technological upgrades to the Central Library.
- Increased food subsidies for better quality food at the halls' dining.
- Quick completion of a fully functional Teacher-Student Cultural Centre (TSCC).
- Announcement of a full schedule for the Rajshahi University Central Students' Union (RUCSU).
"This movement is not against anyone; it is a movement to realise our rights. We want a safe, modern, and education-friendly campus. If these demands are not met, we will intensify our programme," said protesting student Tania Anjum.
The demonstrators said these demands have been raised for years, but the administration has failed to act, leaving students with no option but to mobilise.
They urged the university authorities to take immediate action to restore trust and ensure meaningful reforms.
