A Dhaka court today (15 September) set 15 October to submit a probe report in a case filed against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and six others over the murder of grocer Abu Saiyed on 19 July in the city's Mohammadpur area during the student-led movement.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Zaki-Al-Farabi set the date as the investigating officer of the case failed to submit the report today.

Amir Hamza Shatil, a resident of Mohammadpur, pleaded to file a murder case with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury against Sheikh Hasina and others on 13 August.

Hasina, 35 others sued over journo Mehedi murder

A case was filed yesterday against 36 people including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina over the killing of Dhaka Times reporter Mehedi Hasan while he was covering the anti-discrimination student movement in the capital's Jatrabari area.

The other prominent accused in the case are Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Anisul Huq, Rashed Khan Menon, Hasanul Huq Inu, Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, Habibur Rahman, Harun-ur-Rashid and Biplab Kumar Sarker.

Mehedi's father Mosharraf Hossain filed the complaint with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahin Reza.

The court, after recording the statement of the complainant, asked Jatrabari Police Station to file the matter as a first information report.
Mehedi was shot and killed near Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover in the Kazla area of Jatrabari on 18 July evening. He was on duty to cover the anti-discrimination student movement in the area.
